Editorial & sources policy
Last updated: 2026-08-09
This page explains how Visionworks.info researches, writes, updates, and labels educational vision content.
Independence
Visionworks.info is independently operated. Advertisers and retailers do not control our educational conclusions. We are not affiliated with Visionworks retail optical stores or VSP Vision.
What we publish
- Interactive educational tools with clear limitations
- Explainers for vision measurements and prescription fields
- Condition and symptom education that does not diagnose individuals
- Guides that help readers prepare for professional care
Sources we prefer
When making medically substantive statements, we prioritize:
- National Eye Institute (NEI)
- American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO)
- American Optometric Association (AOA)
- U.S. FDA / FTC consumer materials where relevant (for example, prescription release topics)
- CDC materials when applicable
- Peer-reviewed literature and major academic medical center patient education
We do not treat anonymous health blogs or unverified social media claims as authoritative sources.
No fake medical reviewers
We do not invent physicians, credentials, or review dates. If a page is not reviewed by a named licensed clinician, we do not claim that it was. Default labeling is “editorially researched from authoritative sources” (or similar), consistent with site configuration.
How pages are structured
Tool and medical education pages generally include:
- Overview and how-to instructions
- What results can mean / cannot mean
- Limitations
- When to seek professional care and emergency cues where relevant
- FAQ and cited sources
Updates and corrections
Content is updated when guidance from authoritative sources changes, when tools are improved, or when readers report clear errors. Use the contact form for corrections. Material factual fixes are prioritized over cosmetic edits.
Advertising
Advertising, when present, is visually separated from editorial content. Ads do not change medical conclusions on a page.
